NAS fringe event on SEN and disabilities

September 11, 2008 9:16 PM

The National Autistic Society (NAS) has been asked by the Liberal Democrats to hold a fringe event on special educational needs at the party conference on Monday 15th September.

Hosted by Annette Brooke MP, the 'Cocktails and Conversation' event is part of the Lib Dem consultation on 5-19 education and will help form their policy on SEN, disability and education. The event will encourage people to think differently about education and autism and will feature discussions on topics such as what does a good education for children with SEN and disabilities look like, how can children with SEN and disabilities get the right support, and what kind of training do teachers require to best meet the needs of children with SEN and disabilities?

The discussion event will be attended by Lord Clement-Jones (Vice-Chair for the APPG on Autism), Paul Holmes MP (Treasurer for the APPG on Autism), Brian Lamb (Chair of the Special Educational Consortium), and James Kempton (Chair of the Liberal Democrat Schools Working Group). Parents and people with autism will also be attending to share their experiences.

The format of the discussion at the fringe will be in the form of round table discussion on a variety of topics. The NAS has drawn up a list of possible discussion items, but those who participate in the discussion are not restricted to what is put in front of them.

The event takes place at 6:15pm-7:30pm

on Monday 15th September at:

Royal Bath Hotel (Mezzanine suite)

Bath Road

Bournemouth
