Responding to a new report from the Mental Welfare Commission that calls on the Scottish Government to review the number of mental health beds available for children and young people, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"The Scottish Government's recent mental health strategy, a blueprint for next ten years, has already been panned by experts for its lack of ambition and detail. This report highlights

"Scottish Liberal Democrats recently revealed that since the 18-week referral to treatment standard was introduced more than 10,000 children have endured shocking waits for treatment.

"That's why Scottish Liberal Democrats are calling on the SNP Government to double CAMHS spending and create new specialist beds for children living north of Dundee to end the scandal of long journeys for treatment, and ensure they are adequately staffed to stop children being turned away."
