Appeal court imposes driver ban

23 Jan 2008

A ruling not to disqualify a man caught drink driving after an emergency call to help his disabled father, has been quashed by the Court of Appeal.

Joseph Mullan of Connaught Road in Randalstown was given a fine and penalty points when he first appeared in court, but was not disqualified. The original sentence was challenged by the chief constable.

Lord Chief Justice Sir Brian Kerr said Mr Mullan could have found another way to travel to assist his father.
