Concern over increasing attacks on guide dogs in Essex

7 Mar 2016

The Guide Dog Association is calling on the police in Essex to take attacks on guide dogs more seriously.

It comes after three incidents in Colchester in as many months. The latest took place on Monday.

Terri Sawkins, a guide dog user, said: "It is so scary when you can't see where they're coming from or whether they've got an owner with them.

"There isn't anything more frightening. I was walking down a street and there was just this snarling, growling noise. Huffle stopped, I stopped. I didn't realise he'd been bitten.

"I have no idea how the dog made contact without me knowing because it was on the shoulder nearest me. I called out and asked what was going on. Nobody came to my assistance."
