Disabled woman mugged for handbag

A "callous" thief who stole a handbag from a woman in a wheelchair in Edinburgh is being sought by police.

They also want to speak to a woman who came to her aid but left before police arrived.

The 66-year-old victim was making her way home in Abbeyhill on Monday when she became aware of someone approaching her from behind.

She suddenly felt her bag, which was over her shoulder, being tugged over her head, knocking her glasses off.

A woman who had witnessed the suspect run off in the direction of Montrose Terrace spoke to the victim.

The only description of the suspect is that he wore a hooded top.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: "It is vital that we speak to the lady who came to the aid of the victim as she may have further information she can offer us.

"We would also like to speak to anyone else who witnessed the incident, or who knows who may have committed this cowardly act."
