Dissability Essex gets two training bursary awards.
The Jerome Booth Charitable Fund and Essex County Council Millennium Fund have awarded Disability Essex funding for two Training Bursaries.
This will cover the training costs for two people to gain a formal 'Train the Trainer' qualification for Mobility Scooter Instructors. The unique course includes the Award in 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong learning Sector' (PTLLS, City & Guilds 7303), which will allow them the successful students to work in the public and private training sector.
The need for improved mobility scooter driver skills has featured widely in the national media. Indeed, the issue has become high profile following a series of major accidents caused by poor driving or caused to scooter drivers.
The Minister of Transport responsible for Disability Transport, Norman Baker MP, is attending at the Centre for Disability Studies in Rochford (www.centrefordisabilitystudies.org) on 10th May 2011. He will be viewing the training track and facilities; meeting tutors and students; and be present for the accreditation of the Disability Essex courses by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
This will be another 'first' for the Charity. (The first nationally accredited course). Recently, training bursaries for scooter users were awarded by Rochford Housing (50 students) and Thurrock Council (2 trainers). Disability Essex is now the premier provider of Safety Training for mobility scooters.
