Film charts the plight of the disabled
A Group of people with learning disabilities have come together in Derbyshire to make a film about the discrimination they face.
People from Derbyshire, Leeds, Newcastle, and London have written, directed and starred in the film, called Can You Hear Us?
It was shot at locations all over the county, including Swanwick Hayes Conference Centre, the Days Hotel, Pentagon Island, Derby, and Willows Sports Centre, Willow Row, Derby.
The video, which will have its premiere before invited guests on Tuesday, March 6, will be used as a training resource for police forces and companies so employees can gain a better understanding of the problems facing people with learning disabilities.
It was made with the support of the charity United Response, which helps people with learning problems or mental health needs, and it will be screened at the Odeon, Derby. Belinda Heaney, United Response inclusion co-ordinator for the North West, was involved in the project.
She said: "The film features five different stories and it's very powerful and emotive because it features people's real-life experiences. "There were about 20 people involved in making the film. It took three days to shoot but about a year to plan. We're very excited about the premiere. It will be great to showcase it after the hard work everyone has put in."
