Forest bikes adapted for disabled

17 Feb 2008

Pedal power of a different version is being offered to people with disabilities who want to enjoy the trails in a North Yorkshire forest.

The Forestry Commission has 55km (34m) of mountain bike trails in the forest and wants to encourage disabled people to sample the network of routes.

Almost 50,000 people have used the tracks since they were opened last May, but most have been able-bodied.

Now specially-adapted bikes have been made available for use.

The adapted bikes have been fitted with hand pedals, some with side-by-side seats and others have been fitted with small motors to take the strain out of pedalling.
