Funding for homes for disabled

Nearly £70,000 of government funding to improve homes for people with learning disabilities at two group homes in Fenland has been agreed. Camb's Learning Disability Partnership (LDP) provides the accommodation, at Wisbech and Whittlesey, for eight learning disabled adults.

But they were in a poor state of repair. Thanks to the grant they will be repaired and refurbished. The LDP brings together specialist health and social care services.

It is responsible for commissioning services for people with a learning disability on behalf of Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council. The LDP successfully bid for £69,000 from the Governments Campus Closure Fund.

The fund is open to every authority in the country, but there were only eight successful applicants.

Cambridgeshire County Council area disability service manager George Hunt said: "I am delighted that the hard work put in by everyone involved with this project was successful in securing the funding from the Governments Campus Closure Fund. "This is great news for Cambridgeshire and even better news for the residents of the homes and a major step on their road to independent living."
