Responding to reports of the Government’s planned overhaul of SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) provision in England, Munira Wilson MP, Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson, said:

“I’m glad to finally see the Government move toward reforming the SEND system: a mess that’s failed far too many children and families and left councils on the brink.

“We've been fighting hard for an end to the SEND crisis - we need better state special school capacity and improved early identification and mainstream inclusivity initiatives. We'll keep holding ministers' feet to the fire to make sure these reforms happen.

"But top of Labour's to-do list should be establishing a national body for SEND, to cover high needs costs and end the unfair postcode lottery facing SEND families.”
