So Washing your hair, making the bed and mopping the floor. A lot of people take this for granted.
The aches in your arms, legs and feeling exhausted just from sweeping the kitchen.
I wish I could just say I'm being lazy and that's why I cant do certain things. Unfortunately for people with Chronic Illnesses or any other type of physical condition thats effecting their mobility will know what this is like.
The most ideal thing to do is to do little bits at a time, take a rest then carry on, but if you have children and have to go to work. I understand it is not that easy, especially if you have no one around you that can help, like a partner or a parent even a friend.
Certain things you might struggle with are:
- Standing to prepare dinner
- Bathing or showering
- Getting dressed
- Hoovering
- Going shopping
- Driving
- Going to work or college/school
- Gardening
If you are starting to feel insufferable with daily tasks, to the point you can hardly do any of these things with out great difficulty then it might be time to think about applying for a carer, this can also be funded by the UK Government.
If you are thinking that this sounds like you, you might be feeling embarrassed, worthless or that maybe even you are too young but these people are here to help, they do understand or they wouldn't be in this profession. They have been fully trained to help and care for you.
Personally I am lucky that I have such an understanding caring boyfriend, who I live with.
When I have flare ups or just a bad day with fibro he helps me wash my hair/showering, making the bed, or helping with the housework and preparing dinner.
There also might be things that you have learnt to do in another way to help you. I find sitting on the sofa to peel the vegetables helps, as I can not stand for no longer than 5-10 minutes. When I have a flare up, I find myself walking around on my knees and hands, and climbing on the sofa and bed. We all learn to adjust things when we need too.
Support groups are always there. Going to your local council, or looking online, you can find loads, also social media pages are useful for when you just want someone who's in the same boat to understand.
Please Just remember even though somedays you might feel like it, you are never alone.
There is always someone who understands.
