Minister thanks hard working Bradford MP on Social Care Report
Bradford East MP, David Ward, was joined by Norman Lamb MP, Minister of State for Care and Support, in a Westminster Hall debate on Tuesday 5th March to discuss the key conclusions from his report into Social Care in Bradford East.
The key issues raised in the debate included the benefits that local people in Bradford would receive from the Government's lifetime cap on care costs from 2017.
Loneliness and isolation from care services in our community as well the need to maintain the current level of care support to people in Bradford were also discussed.
One of the main issues highlighted in his research was the delays experienced by residents when trying to get adaptations to their homes to allow them to continue to live full and independently active lives. Speaking in the debate David highlighted the case of a local disabled man who, on having returned from receiving fantastic care at Pinderfields Hospital, is continuing to come up against serious obstacles in receiving the necessary adaptations to his home.
Commenting David said:
"I very much welcomed the opportunity to publicly thank all the members of the public that replied to my survey as well as the local groups and organisations that helped me pull together this research. Without their input this would not have been possible.
"As my research demonstrates, there is a continuing need to ensure that vulnerable people in Bradford who need basic adaptations to their homes, which are fundamental to their needs and continuing care, receive them quickly and efficiently. This is not happening in all cases at the moment and I urge more strenuous efforts to support the vulnerable when they need it most."
Commenting in the debate Norman Lamb said:
"It is a brilliant piece of work, not just the report itself, which is fantastic, but the degree of discussion, debate and engagement with both ordinary people but also with all the local organisations, to get a real understanding of what is going on in his community, is immensely impressive".
