Offenders help disabled gardeners

24 Oct 2007

A group of young offenders have transformed a building used by a community project for disabled people by painting a colourful mural. Fifteen youngsters used their spare time to paint the portable cabin, which is home to Newbury's Growing 4 All.

The building is used as offices and a lunch room by the project, run by people with disabilities who grow and sell seedlings. The council was working in partnership with Mencap to upgrade the cabin.

Di-Anne Johnston, project organiser and youth worker for West Berkshire Council said: "The young people have responded well to this work and enjoyed being able to pay something back to the community in a positive and creative way."
