Eczema baths 'a waste of money'

Bath products to help ease the skin inflammation caused by allergic eczema may not be worth the amount of money the NHS spends on them, a study says. There is no clinical evidence these emollients work, nor any consensus of medical opinion, researchers writing in Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin contend.

Clue to chemistry of mini-strokes

Elevated levels of uric acid may be to blame for mini-strokes that potentially cause mental decline in ageing adults. Brain scans showed mini-strokes - white matter hypersensitivities (WMHs) - were more common among elderly patients with higher uric acid levels.

Lib Dems restate support for EDCM

At the Liberal Democrat conference on Monday 17th September, shadow Ministers Danny Alexander MP and Annette Brooke MP restated their support for the EDCM campaign objective of rights and justice for every disabled child. At the EDCM fringe meeting last night, Trevor Phillips, chair of the new Commission on Equality and Human Rights, described disabled children as a 'canary indicator' to show how far our society has progressed towards equality and respect for difference.
