Chocolate 'aids fatigue syndrome'

A daily dose of specially-formulated dark chocolate may help cut chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms. Patients in a pilot study found they had less fatigue when eating dark chocolate with a high cocoa content than with white chocolate dyed brown.

Scientists say it may be possible to use a breath test to monitor blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. US researchers have discovered people with type 1 diabetes exhale higher levels of methyl nitrates when their blood sugar levels are too high.

New equality body opens its doors

A new single equality body for England, Wales and Scotland comes into effect on 1 October, replacing three long-standing commissions. The Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR) will look after age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation. The new organisation will also have a duty to promote and uphold the Human Rights Act.Its chair is Trevor Phillips from the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE).

Bath death prompts £15,000 fine

A care provider has been fined £15,000 for breaking health and safety laws following the death of a disabled woman who had been left alone in a bath. Lilia Korzun, 48, who needed 24-hour care, died at a sheltered bungalow in Wednesbury, West Midlands, in 2004.
