Discrimination law revamp planned

Plans for new laws to protect workers from discrimination on the grounds of age, sexuality, disability, race or religion have been unveiled. Although current laws stop people being sacked, there is nothing to stop Isle of Man employers refusing to recruit people on similar grounds.

The Electoral Office in Northern Ireland is planning to make it easier for disabled people to vote. It is launching a consultation process on Friday and wants to hear from anyone who had trouble using their polling station.

A disabled man has complained he is being discriminated against because he is not allowed to take his motorised scooter on to a bus. Bill Pearsall, of Woodside, Shropshire, has been unable to catch the No. 44 Arriva bus into Telford.

A Coventry branch of a provider of employment services for disabled people has got more than 400 people into work in its first 11 months. Remploy's city centre branch, which is on Trinity Street, provides specialist services for disabled people and "those with complex needs".

A woman with a learning disability who was sexually assaulted has been denied justice because she was not judged a reliable witness, a report has said. The Mental Welfare Commission investigated the case of the 67-year-old woman known as "Miss A".
